Liverpool Counts

GOLD! Blackmoor Park Junior School is delighted to announce that we are one of only a few schools in the city who have been awarded The Gold Standard in the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark.

Our assessor was impressed with our displays, our teaching and the way that our children embrace maths in all areas of their lives and are keen and eager to learn, and ask questions.

We are grateful for all that children, parents and teachers have done to help us achieve this, and are very proud of ourselves!

Blackmoor Park Junior School is pleased to announce that we are participating in an exciting project in Liverpool to promote Mathematics in our city.

The aims of the project are:

  • to raise the profile of Numeracy / Mathematics
  • to change the culture of thinking around Numeracy / Mathematics
  • to make real life connections
  • to understand how Numeracy / Mathematics can affect life choices
  • to make connections with other subjects
  • to share and celebrate the enjoyment of Numeracy / Mathematics
  •

We will therefore be holding events throughout the school year to help everyone have fun and improve their mathematics skills.

We have appointed children in Years 4,5 and 6 to be our Maths Stars. They will receive their badges in a special assembly before half term.

Maths Diaries

Your child will be bringing home a 'maths diary' and a covering letter before half term. We look forward to reading how they have used maths outside school.

NATIONAL NUMERACY CHALLENGE

Don't forget to encourage all adults in your family to have a go at the National Numeracy Challenge. Then let Mrs Davies know, they may receive a small prize!

Don't forget to look in the Children's Zone for some great games and apps that you can use at home. Other suggestions ( from our Maths Stars) include www.timestables.co.uk, www.mathsplayground.com, coolmathsgames.com, mathgametime.com, themathsfactor.com, mathschamps.co.uk, www.funbrain.com.

Thank you so much to all parents and children for the great start you have made on maths diaries. Children are using maths when cooking, buying takeaways, measuring carpets, telling the time and even making cushions for their teacher!

Remember to bring it into school on maths chat day to get a sticker from your teacher.

MATHS DAY November 11th 2016

We have all had a fantastic time on Maths Day. Have a look at the photos in the gallery to see for yourselves. The children have loved using all their maths skills in painting, making bead strings, thinking about Fair Trade, cooking and so many other things!

We are looking forward to telling our parents all about what we have done when they come into school next week.

Parents and Carers in school

Some classes have already had parents and grandparents into school, telling us all about how they use maths in their jobs. 4T have learnt all about how nurses use maths every day, including time and measures; while 4D talked to Lauren's nan who told us about her working life in a shop. She had to deal with money every day, but also had to help people choose the right equipment, based upon how long each washing machine cycle was. We look forward to seeing more parents soon!

We're looking forward to Number Day on Friday, raising money for the NSPCC by wearing tops linked with maths, but also working on fun activities in our maths lessons.

GAMES NIGHT 15TH FEBRUARY

We are really looking forward to hosting the first Maths Games night after school on Wednesday 15th February. All spaces are now filled, and if you applied you will be receiving a text nearer the time with details. We have lots of great games and puzzles for you to try out with your family!

Thank you for supporting Number Day which raised £190 for the NSPCC! Our next activities are Pi Day on 14th March, and our Easter maths morning on 31st March.

Did you know that 14th March was Pi Day? Our children certainly do now, after 4P's great assembly about Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi! We all followed this up in class with some great maths activities, which we tweeted to all our followers!
